Thayer Supports Williams-Farmer Ticket
By: Jordan Rowe

Georgetown, Ky.-Speaking on WRVG’s The Big
Picture Thursday, State Senator Damon Thayer (R-Georgetown) says
he’ll support David Williams and Richie Farmer in their quest for
governor and lieutenant governor.
"I'm supporting David Williams and Richie Farmer for governor and
lieutenant governor because I believe they will lay out a vision for
Kentucky," he said. "A vision of where we need to go and a plan
for how to take us there. The kind of bold decisions that we're
not getting from the current administration in Frankfort."
Thayer says that back in May, he and Bill Johnson actually floated the
idea of running for governor and lieutenant governor. But he said
the two agreed that if any combination of a ticket involving Williams or
Farmer was formed, they would not challenge their candidacy.
“I will not be a candidate for governor or lieutenant governor in 2011,”
Thayer said.
He made that announcement for the first time on Thursday.
Asked if he had any higher political ambitions, Thayer said he has been
asked about running for state auditor or secretary of state in 2011.
But he said others are encouraging him to stay in the state senate and
run for re-election 2012.
Ultimately, Thayer believes the door of opportunity lies with the
election of David Williams as governor.
“I believe that David Williams will be the next governor of the
commonwealth of Kentucky,” Thayer said. “And then there will be
some openings and opportunities in the Kentucky state senate that people
would like for me to pursue. I really enjoy serving the people of
the 17th Senate District. I’m going to keep all of my options open
and make a decision in the next few months on my political future.”
Memorial Drive Parking Eliminated

Georgetown, Ky.-If you’re a Georgetown College
employee and you park on Memorial Drive, you’ll soon have to find a new
spot.
Believing
that first impressions are everything, the decision was made Wednesday
to no longer permit parking along Memorial Drive beginning September
13th.
Georgetown College Vice President of Student Life Todd Gambill sent
an email to the Georgetown College community to announce the change. He
said the College is wanting the entrance to campus to be as picturesque
as possible.
“If you would picture in your mind’s eye the most beautiful campus
you’ve ever been on, where are the cars in that picture,” asked Gambill.
“My guess is, for most people, whatever they are envisioning they don’t
see cars in it.”
The change will also allow for ample room for two-way driving on the
street. But the decision will cost the college about two dozen
parking spots in the heart of campus.
Gambill says the college is working with the city to extend parking
on Main Street for admissions visitors. Employees will be forced
to park in other lots around campus, such as Anderson West.
Gideons Distribute Scriptures on Georgetown College Campus

Georgetown, Ky.-The Gideons International paid a
visit to Georgetown College Monday with the intent to distribute dozens
of copies of New Testament scriptures for free.
Their visit to Georgetown is part of a larger, Lexington-Metro Scripture
Blitz. The Gideons hope to pass out 60,000 scriptures in the next
three days.
Before their stop on campus, the Gideons were in Downtown Georgetown
passing out bibles to pedestrians and placing them in the attorney’s
offices. They will distribute scriptures at the University of
Kentucky on Wednesday.

Last year, the organization distributed 75 million testaments around the
world with 250,000 professional men taking part.
“We do this in the traffic lanes of life, wherever people are,” said
Bill Hill, President of the Boone County Gideons International camp.
“We go to hospitals, hotels, motels, and schools.”
The Auxillary, the ladies of the Gideons, work to place testaments in
doctor and dentist offices as well as with nurses who work with
patients.
Hill says the group will place scriptures wherever they are allowed.
They also speak in churches periodically. He says generally people
are very receptive to their presence at schools and on college campuses
when they know that it’s a free gift they are being offered.
Hill said the group’s biggest need right now is the service of more
young, professional men. There are a few qualifications, such as
being a member of good standing in a church. He says a local
Gideon camp can educate students further about those qualifications.
Ultimately, the Gideons mission is to tell others about Christ.
And Hill says distributing free testaments gives the group an avenue to
do that.

Georgetown, Ky.-The Georgetown College Football team kicked off
the 2010 season with an exhibition game last night against Hanover
College.
The
exhibition consisted of two varsity quarters, special teams and red zone
quarters, and rookie and JV time. The Varsity squad led through
their two quarters 24-7.
The scrimmage also featured great play from quarterbacks Kaelin
Ammons and Cameron Smyth. The quarterback position has been a big
lingering offseason question for Coach Cronin and his staff. Wide
receiver Coty Minnis also contributed to the Tiger’s offense.
The Tigers warm up prepares them for next week’s matchup against
Weber International in Florida. Catch all the post game analysis
and break down with 93.7 WRVG next week.

Georgetown, Ky.-A sexual assault on the campus of
Georgetown College is grabbing regional headlines.
Georgetown
Police are still investigating an incident that happened early Tuesday
morning in the parking lot of Anderson Hall. A female student is
said to have been sexually assaulted at the school.
Georgetown Dean of Students Dr. Todd Gambill notified students on
Tuesday about the incident. So far there is no word on the
victim’s condition. Police do not believe the suspect is a student
at the college. The alleged perpetrator is reportedly a Caucasian
male, bearded, over 6 feet tall, and in his late 20s.
Campus Safety is cooperating with the Georgetown Police Department in
this investigation. They have encouraged students to travel in
groups after dark, report suspicious persons, and lock their car and
residence hall doors.
